Controller (AI/Automation)

Location: New York City, hybrid with four days per week in the office.

Salary: $175k–$225k plus equity.

What you will do

• Own daily accounting, month-end close, general ledger, AP/AR, payroll accounting, and timely financial reporting.
• Build scalable accounting policies, controls, documentation, and recurring processes.
• Lead technical accounting for revenue recognition, deferred revenue, equity compensation, multi-entity reporting, and capitalization.
• Improve finance systems and integrations, applying AI and automation to reconciliations, reporting, collections, and analysis.
• Own billing and collections, resolve customer issues, and maintain visibility into receivables, cash, and upcoming payments.
• Manage audits and coordinate tax and compliance work while partnering with the CFO on budgets, forecasting, monthly reporting, and board and investor materials.

Requirements

• 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including Big 4 or equivalent audit experience.
• Strong US GAAP knowledge and practical SaaS or subscription revenue accounting experience.
• Experience owning a close and working directly with auditors, with readiness to take responsibility for the full accounting function.
• Experience applying AI and automation to real accounting or finance work, including explaining the improved workflow, output checks, and measurable result.
• Strong spreadsheet and financial systems skills, attention to detail, and ability to turn incomplete information into a clear next step.
• Clear communication, strong ownership, follow-through to resolution, and effective collaboration outside Finance.

Nice to have

• CPA and/or public accounting experience.
• Experience improving the process from signed contract through cash collection or modernizing accounting and billing systems.
• Interest or experience in FP&A, financial modeling, and partnering with department leaders on spending and resource decisions.
• Experience building an accounting function from scratch at an early-stage or hyper-scaling company.
