Principal AI Enablement Engineer (AI)

Location: Reston, Virginia, United States; hybrid work schedule.

Salary: $180,700–$244,500 annual base salary, plus a discretionary performance bonus and potential discretionary stock awards.

What you will do

• Act as the principal technical authority for the on-premises AI and LLM platform.
• Design, implement, operate, and evolve production LLM inference platforms and supporting infrastructure.
• Evaluate models, inference engines, developer tools, agent frameworks, and emerging AI technologies for production suitability.
• Build evaluation methodologies covering model quality, performance, reliability, and workload suitability.
• Develop secure AI-assisted software engineering capabilities, including coding agents, tool use, repository integration, retrieval systems, and developer workflows.
• Establish deployment, upgrade, rollback, observability, capacity planning, incident response, security controls, and responsible AI practices while mentoring engineers and working with internal users.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecommunications, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 15+ years of computer engineering experience.
• Extensive experience designing, operating, or troubleshooting complex production systems.
• Strong Linux systems engineering experience and understanding of distributed systems, networking, storage, containers, and modern infrastructure platforms.
• Experience with software development practices, source control, CI/CD, automation, and infrastructure-as-code.
• Strong programming or scripting ability in Python, Go, C/C++, or equivalent languages.
• Practical experience deploying LLMs and understanding of inference concepts including context windows, tokenization, quantization, batching, concurrency, memory requirements, and accelerator utilization.
• Ability to lead major technical initiatives without direct personnel management authority.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work with governance, security, and platform stakeholders to protect sensitive information and support responsible AI practices.

Nice to have

• GPU or accelerator-based computing experience.
• Experience with llama.cpp, vLLM, Ollama, TensorRT-LLM, or similar inference engines.
• Kubernetes or other container orchestration platforms.
• RAG, embeddings, vector search, and enterprise knowledge retrieval.
• Agentic AI systems, tool-calling models, coding agents, or Model Context Protocol.
• AI-assisted software development environments, model evaluation and benchmarking, open-weight LLM deployment, and model lifecycle management.
• Enterprise authentication, authorization, secrets management, and audit systems.
• Experience in environments with strict security, privacy, reliability, or regulatory requirements.
