Senior Software Engineer (Cloud-Native)

Location: Remote in the United States; 15–20% travel expected.

What you will do

• Design and build a cloud-native maintenance planning and execution tool, owning architecture and end-to-end delivery from development through user acceptance testing, production transition, and sustainment.
• Translate ambiguous requirements into technical solutions with software engineers, data architects, platform engineers, partner companies, government organizations, and other stakeholders.
• Create data transformations and maintain data quality, integrity, metadata, lineage, governance, and compliance.
• Modernize on-premises systems into distributed cloud services and design authentication, identity management, RBAC/ABAC, policy enforcement, and security telemetry.
• Drive microservice design, API development, testing, observability, CI/CD automation, documentation, and integration with existing defense systems.
• Mentor engineers, lead technical working sessions, influence product direction, and communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience for senior level or 10+ years for staff level.
• Experience building software tools focused on software lifecycle and management.
• Expert proficiency in at least one modern programming language, such as Go, TypeScript, or Python, with the ability to write idiomatic, testable code.
• Strong understanding of system design, API development, workflow orchestration, relational databases, and cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
• Deep knowledge of database and schema design, indexing, and query optimization.
• Experience decomposing complex monolithic applications into independent services communicating through lightweight APIs.
• Modern API design experience beyond basic CRUD, including RESTful services and tools such as FastAPI, ASP.NET, or equivalent.
• Experience with authorization, data governance, security telemetry pipelines, policy enforcement, and role-based access control for enterprise compliance and data privacy.
• Familiarity with core Kubernetes concepts, including controllers, operators, and CRDs; strong communication, collaboration, analytical, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
• Familiarity with Department of Defense acquisition or sustainment software modernization projects and the ability to work proactively in a remote environment.
