Senior Systems Software Engineer (Cloud & Distributed Systems)

Location: San Juan, Puerto Rico; hybrid work required, averaging 2 days per week from an HPE office. U.S. citizenship and proof of U.S. citizenship are required for services in a FedRAMP High compliant environment.

What you will do

• Build and maintain Go applications for Linux user-space management on Debian-based distributions.
• Develop package management solutions using apt and dpkg APIs, monitor installed packages, manage updates, and ensure version consistency.
• Design service observability systems for status tracking, health metrics, and automated log retrieval and parsing.
• Package internal software into production-ready .deb files, including post-install scripts and dependency management.
• Lead the transition toward modular, service-oriented system tools while maintaining Linux performance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or an equivalent field.
• 7–10+ years of software development experience.
• Expert-level Go/Golang proficiency for systems-level programming.
• Proficiency in Python for scripting, automation, or maintaining existing system utilities.
• Experience designing distributed systems or microservice architectures for complex system tasks.
• Experience with networking concepts or device management systems.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with mastery of English and the local language.
• Ability to communicate product architectures and design proposals and negotiate options with business-unit and executive stakeholders.
• U.S. citizenship with proof of citizenship is required.
