Geotechnical Laboratory Scientist

Location: Wallingford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom. Full-time, on site, five days per week; 37.5 hours per week.

What you will do

• Perform geotechnical laboratory tests according to approved procedures, technical standards and accreditation requirements.
• Generate, process and review test data, checking calculations and results for completeness, consistency, accuracy and technical validity.
• Identify anomalies and deviations, escalate concerns, and support investigations and corrective actions.
• Apply ISO/IEC 17025, laboratory quality systems and data-integrity principles while contributing to audits and accreditation activities.
• Support safe and timely laboratory programmes, method development, validation and continuous improvement.
• Share knowledge, support training and competency development, and promote safe working through risk assessments and safety discussions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, Earth Sciences, Geoscience, Applied Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Experience in a regulated laboratory, geotechnical-testing environment, field investigation setting or another role involving technical data analysis.
• Strong numerical, analytical and communication skills, with the ability to interpret technical information, follow structured procedures and maintain attention to detail.
• Understanding of laboratory health and safety and ability to work collaboratively.
• Ability to complete activities involving sustained periods of standing.

Nice to have

• Experience using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft 365 or a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
