Manager, Software Development, Geoscience

Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada; hybrid work from the local office 2 days a week, with occasional travel of approximately 1–2 weeks per quarter and occasional Tier 3 after-hours support.

What you will do

• Lead one or more teams delivering scalable, secure, and high-quality geophysics software.
• Build and guide high-performing teams through hiring, mentoring, career development, and performance management.
• Translate strategic goals into software development roadmaps while balancing innovation, technical debt, and business continuity.
• Collaborate with architecture, cloud infrastructure, SRE, security, application, product management, and product design functions.
• Embed security, compliance, high availability, disaster recovery, SLAs, SLOs, and incident response into delivery.
• Drive engineering strategy, continuous improvement, developer experience, generative AI adoption, and third-party vendor or contractor coordination.

Requirements

• 10 or more years of demonstrated software engineering experience, including at least 3 years leading a team directly or indirectly.
• Experience with agile development methodologies.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish clear communication practices and performance expectations across teams and stakeholders.
• Ability to translate functional strategies into actionable plans and oversee initiatives affecting team and job-area performance.
• Ability to apply logical analysis and prior experience to resolve moderately complex challenges and improve systems and processes.
• In-depth practical knowledge of organisational practices and policies, with experience applying new skills and tools to support team and business goals.
• Ability to work flexibly across global time zones and provide occasional Tier 3 after-hours support.
• Ability to travel minimally, approximately 1–2 weeks per quarter.
