Manager, AI Engineering

Location: Remote in Canada

Compensation: CA$168,000–CA$252,000 for Canada Tier 1; CA$143,000–CA$214,000 for Canada Tier 2. Tier 1 applies within 50 miles of Toronto or Vancouver; Tier 2 applies elsewhere in Canada.

What you will do

• Lead and grow a small technical team while contributing directly to engineering and research.
• Set technical direction, break down ambiguous problems, plan execution, and build a culture of ownership, collaboration, experimentation, and high standards.
• Develop agentic capabilities for agent monitoring, guardrails, evaluation, discovery, red teaming, and misuse detection.
• Perform exploratory data analysis, feature engineering, model fine-tuning, and rapid prototyping based on product feedback.
• Work with Product and Research to translate AI research into product features and software engineering projects.
• Produce technical designs and production-ready code for scalable and reliable software.

Requirements

• BSc in Computer Science or a related field with exposure to AI/ML.
• Deep expertise in AI/ML, software engineering, or AI security.
• Strong Python programming skills and experience with relevant ML and/or agentic frameworks.
• Ability to work cross-functionally and collaboratively with end-to-end ownership and deliver real-world outcomes.
• Ability to learn and use additional programming languages and technologies as needed to ship scalable, reliable software.

Nice to have

• PhD in Computer Science or a related field focused on AI/ML or a similar area.
• Hands-on experience with agent orchestration, agent harnesses, agent teams, jailbreaking or prompt injection, red teaming, data poisoning or evasion attacks, secure model deployment or sandboxing, or AI misuse detection and monitoring.
• Experience contributing to open source projects.
• Experience in a fast-paced startup environment.
• Experience in cybersecurity.
