Engineering Lead (Payments)

Location: Stockholm, Sweden; on-site.

What you will do

• Design and implement payment flows, recurring billing, and provider integrations from initial architecture through production.
• Set technical direction, guide architectural decisions, and contribute code and reviews on complex problems.
• Investigate production issues, improve observability, and strengthen failure handling, retries, reliability, and scalability.
• Turn complex problems into delivery plans, coach engineers, and own the shipment and operation of high-quality systems.
• Partner with Payments, Product, Finance, and Operations to improve payment success, reduce losses, and support global growth.

Requirements

• Proven experience personally building and scaling production payments infrastructure, from architecture through implementation and ongoing operations.
• Deep experience with payment processing, recurring billing, provider integrations, and reconciliation.
• Strong judgment in distributed systems, including financial correctness, idempotency, consistency, and failure recovery.
• Experience leading engineers through complex architectural decisions, migrations, and production incidents.
• Technical depth and judgment to simplify complex systems and improve the quality of engineering decisions.
• Ability to work across the stack; the stack includes React, TypeScript, Golang, Rust, Cloudflare, GCP, AWS, ClickHouse, Firestore, Spanner, BigQuery, CI/CD, OTEL, Kubernetes, and Terraform.
