Director, Product Software Engineering (AI)

Location: Gothenburg, Sweden; hybrid work with 8 office days per month and occasional travel of less than 10%

What you will do

• Lead the Scandinavian product software engineering organisation, including experienced managers, architects, and engineers.
• Own delivery of the strategic roadmap, assess demand versus capacity, and ensure achievable commitments.
• Set technology priorities across new product development, modernisation, technical debt, compliance, and operational resilience.
• Improve engineering effectiveness through delivery and quality insights, developer-experience initiatives, and automated build, test, release, and deployment practices.
• Lead AI-assisted and spec-driven engineering transformation while maintaining security, privacy, governance, quality, and compliance standards, including ISO 27001 ownership.
• Develop engineering leaders and talent pipelines, govern decisions and escalations, coordinate release planning, and represent Scandinavian engineering in global and regional forums.

Requirements

• Engineering background with experience building software and deep understanding of modern architecture and cloud platforms.
• Senior leadership experience in a sizeable software engineering organisation of approximately 50 people, including management of managers.
• Responsibility for a portfolio of software products delivered to external customers who depend on regular, reliable releases.
• Strong understanding of architecture principles, software quality attributes, and related trade-offs.
• Practical daily use of AI in software development and knowledge of AI-assisted and spec-driven development.
• Experience with security and compliance frameworks such as ISO 27001, including audits.
• Ability to navigate a matrix organisation and influence stakeholders without direct control.
• Fluent Swedish and English.

• Experience in compliance-driven domains such as tax, accounting, finance, or e-invoicing.
• Experience modernising a product portfolio while continuing to serve existing customers.
