Legal Counsel, Intellectual Property

Location: Milan, Italy; London, UK; Madrid, Spain; or Warsaw, Poland. Most days must be spent in the Milan office during the first few months; afterward, work is possible from one of the offices or remotely from approved countries, subject to agreement at the offer stage.

Typical annual salary: £85,797–£151,436 in London or €66,065–€107,837 elsewhere in Europe. Exceptional candidates may receive up to £398,287 in London or €303,108 elsewhere in Europe.

What you will do

• Build and implement scalable intellectual property strategy and processes.
• Manage the IP portfolio, including inventions, trade secrets, copyrights, trademarks, designs, and database rights across jurisdictions.
• Handle cross-border IP disputes, litigation, and enforcement with outside counsel.
• Draft, review, and negotiate technology and intellectual property agreements while managing legal risk.
• Advise on product decisions, commercial transactions, acquisitions, open source, intermediary liability, advertising law, consumer law, and other commercial matters.
• Create scalable legal forms, playbooks, and AI-powered workflows, and monitor legal and regulatory developments.

Requirements

• Ability to solve complex problems from first principles, structure ideas clearly, identify relevant details, and resist bias.
• High ambition, initiative, effort, tenacity, and personal responsibility for work.
• Collaborative, reliable, honest, transparent, and willing to support the best idea and help the team.
• Proficient spoken and written English.
• After obtaining a law degree, experience practicing at a law firm or as in-house counsel, including exposure to challenges relevant to the role.
