Founding Communications Leader (AI Cybersecurity)

What you will do

• Own earned media strategy, story angles, coverage calendars, and communications plans for launches, research, funding, partnerships, and company milestones.
• Run the PR agency, develop pitches, translate technical work for security practitioners and business and AI media, and lead rapid-response communications.
• Build relationships with newsletters, podcasts, creators, influencers, and trusted voices in security and AI communities.
• Develop the CEO's external presence, build a broader spokesperson bench, and prepare executives for interviews, podcasts, conferences, and press engagements.
• Partner with Product Marketing on launches and prepare communications playbooks for vulnerabilities, customer breaches, competitor attacks, and other difficult moments.
• Build AI-native workflows for monitoring, briefing documents, drafting, claims management, coverage analysis, and communications measurement.

Requirements

• 8–10+ years of experience in communications or PR for B2B technology, with cybersecurity strongly preferred, in-house or in a combination of in-house and agency roles.
• Experience leading communications for funding rounds, acquisitions, and major partnerships at a growth-stage startup.
• A demonstrated record of driving coverage for launches, funding, and research in security trade publications and the business press.
• Experience building a communications program at a small company, writing materials directly, running an agency, and achieving results with a small team or budget.
• Strong news judgment and the ability to identify and develop stories from substantive material without overreaching.
• Experience serving as a trusted executive communications counsel, including preparing CEOs for difficult interviews and advising them on unsuitable opportunities.
• Strong writing across pitches, briefing documents, talking points, and announcements.
• Fluency using AI for monitoring, research, and drafting, including the ability to explain where tools failed and how workflows were improved.

Nice to have

• Experience with crisis or incident communications, ideally in cybersecurity.
• Experience turning original research into earned media coverage.
• Experience building creator, podcast, or influencer programs, or growing an executive audience on X or LinkedIn.
• Familiarity with vulnerability management, exposure management, AppSec, or CloudSec.
