Electrical Project Designer (Electrical Engineering)

Location: Based in Manhattan, New York, NY, with moderate travel mainly throughout the five boroughs; field inspections include urban, rural, and industrial sites and brief outdoor work in temperature extremes.

What you will do

• Design electrical, lighting, and fire-alarm distribution systems for new construction.
• Assist with building walkthroughs and surveys, including measurements, photographs, and equipment inventories for existing electrical, lighting, and fire-alarm systems.
• Perform short-circuit, overcurrent coordination, load, arc-flash, and lighting photometric calculations, including circuitry and panelboard design.
• Prepare photo reports, site markups, summary documentation, correspondence, and verbal updates for Project Manager review.
• Coordinate with other disciplines, vendors, contractors, and Project Managers.
• Draft schematic and detailed construction documents in AutoCAD and Revit.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or applicable work experience.
• 2–4 years of experience in building electrical engineering and/or design supporting existing-building projects and initiatives.
• Understanding of processes, compliance, and coordination with design consulting and construction professionals.
• Adherence to all Structures Group Special Competencies and Certifications listed in Appendix A.
• Basic working knowledge and experience with electrical and fire-alarm distribution systems, including panelboards, transformers, voltage drop, circuitry, and device placement.
• Ability to prioritize effectively, balance assigned work, and remain highly organized in an evolving environment.
• Ability to navigate urban, rural, and industrial sites; walk stairwells, multiple stairs, basement areas, and occupied spaces; sit for extended periods at a computer; operate a keyboard while looking at the screen; and use general office equipment.
• A valid driver’s license and safe driving record are strongly preferred.
