Project Manager - BESS

Location: Remote, applicants must be UK based and already have the right to work in the United Kingdom.

What you will do

• Lead end-to-end delivery of utility-scale BESS projects from construction through commissioning and handover.
• Act as Client Representative under EPC and BoP contracts and manage EPC, BoP, BESS OEM, ICP and subcontractor performance.
• Control programme, cost, quality, contractual compliance, risks, critical path recovery and contractor payment or claims matters.
• Oversee integration of BESS containers, PCS, 33kV/132kV substations, transformers, protection and control, SCADA, communications and cyber security systems.
• Manage commissioning, energisation readiness, performance testing, contractual guarantees and handover documentation.
• Produce monthly programme, commercial, risk and HSE reporting while supporting governance and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Applicants must be UK based and already have the right to work in the United Kingdom.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 5–10 years’ experience delivering utility-scale energy infrastructure, including direct experience with BESS projects, HV substations at 33kV–132kV+, EPC contract administration and grid-connected assets.
• Experience working under UK CDM Regulations, with strong exposure to electrical BoP and OEM integration.
• Strong commercial acumen, advanced programme management capability and structured risk management skills.
• Ability to challenge EPC and OEM contractors, work in a fast-paced multi-project environment and demonstrate professional resilience.
• Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and collaboration skills, including the ability to facilitate knowledge transfer to field management.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including digitalisation and data analytics, plus attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant QHSE software.

Nice to have

• APM PMQ, PRINCE2 or equivalent project management qualification.
• SMSTS or equivalent construction qualification.
