Senior Robotics Design Engineer (Government Projects)

Location: On-site in Los Angeles, United States. Willingness to travel to customer sites is required as needed. Applicants must meet U.S. export control requirements and maintain ongoing U.S. work authorization throughout employment.

Salary: $140K–$175K annually, plus equity and bonus opportunities.

What you will do

• Lead the design, implementation, integration, and testing of complex robotic systems for government projects.
• Gather manufacturing requirements, CAD files, measurements, and documentation with project teams and stakeholders.
• Build 3D CAD assemblies and own robotic manufacturing cell design, optimizing reachability, cycle time, and efficiency.
• Design robotic workcells, tools, end-of-arm tooling, six-axis mechanisms, transporter rails, and related hardware.
• Prototype hardware using 3D printers, CNC machines, and other tools with Design for Manufacturability principles.
• Select mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic components; integrate motors, sensors, cabling, and software; troubleshoot systems; manage risk, procurement, BOMs, and PDM records.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 5+ years of robotic system design and integration experience, primarily with six-axis industrial robots.
• Experience designing 6DOF robot automation systems, including reach and layout studies and end-of-arm tooling.
• Expert-level SolidWorks skills and demonstrated experience with 3D solid modeling, analysis, and 2D manufacturing drawings.
• Familiarity with motion control systems, robotics programming, industrial facilities, and equipment.
• Ability to solve technical problems effectively, efficiently, and independently.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with internal and external stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel to customer sites as required.
• Must qualify under U.S. export control requirements and maintain ongoing U.S. work authorization from hire through the entire employment period.

Nice to have

• 10+ years of robotic system design and integration experience.
• Experience designing industrial robot transporters using Preston-Eastin or Güdel tracks.
• Experience integrating and calibrating robotics sensors, including 3D vision systems.
• Manufacturing industry experience in industrial automation, process development, or manufacturing engineering.
• Experience programming 6DOF robots for surface finishing such as sanding, grinding, or blasting.
• Defense or government industry experience.
