System Design Engineer (SATCOM)

Location: Carlsbad, California, United States; travel as needed, up to 10%

Salary: $212,500–$335,500 annually; $264,000–$396,000 annually for specific locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the New York City metropolitan area

What you will do

• Generate and manage requirements and define system-level architectures for government connectivity products.
• Break down high-level product requirements into detailed system and subsystem design solutions.
• Make system design decisions covering performance, security, and functionality.
• Collaborate with Product Management, engineering leads, customers, and development teams throughout the product lifecycle.
• Ensure hardware and software products meet customer needs while preserving implementation flexibility.
• Maintain standards for interoperability and future scaling across large systems of systems.

Requirements

• 15+ years of experience in systems engineering design and requirements management, preferably related to data platforms, cloud-based application development, satellite communications, or networking.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Solid understanding of full-stack development frameworks.
• Ability to understand and develop system design requirements related to performance, security, and functionality.
• Ability to work with engineering teams to align system design and architecture with customer needs.
• Experience owning hardware and software product and platform success from early definition through product maturity.
• Background working with large systems of systems and maintaining standards for intersystem compatibility and future scaling.
• US citizenship is required.
• Must hold an active United States Secret Clearance.

Nice to have

• Understanding of agile software development processes.
• Understanding of Department of War CONOPs, users, and operating environments.
• Familiarity with data science, data processing, or AI/ML.
• Experience facilitating design-tradeoff discussions with engineering and product management teams.
• Familiarity with requirements management tools such as Jama.
• Familiarity with MBSE design processes and tools such as Cameo.
