Test Engineer (P&C Relay)

Location: Hybrid in Salt Lake City, Utah, US or Markham, Ontario, Canada. Willingness to travel within the US is required.

What you will do

• Perform factory and on-site testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of electrical Protection & Control systems, protection panels, and multifunction protective relays.
• Develop relay setting files and configure GE Multilin, MiCOM, SEL, and ABB relays.
• Design test setups, wiring diagrams, test plans, and test cases for relay performance and protection schemes.
• Execute secondary injection testing using Omicron, Doble, and Megger equipment and software.
• Configure relay settings and communication protocols, including IEC 61850, for substation automation and system integration.
• Prepare procedures, technical documentation, test reports, and commissioning records while supporting turnkey projects and collaborating with engineering teams and customers.

Requirements

• University degree or college diploma in Electrical Engineering.
• 3–5 years of experience in relay testing and developing multifunction relay setting files.
• Strong knowledge of power systems, protection schemes, and communication applications.
• Hands-on experience with GE Multilin, MiCOM, SEL, and ABB relays.
• English proficiency is required.
• Willingness to travel within the US.

Nice to have

• Turnkey P&C project experience and a record of developing P&C applications.
• Working knowledge of major test sets and associated software, and IEC 61850.
• Familiarity with utility standards and documentation, metering, substation automation, and integration.
• Lean / Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification.
• P.Eng. designation.
