Senior AI Engineer

Location: Pleasanton, California, United States; Flex Work with at least 50% of time each quarter in the office or in the field with customers, prospects, and partners.

Annual base salary: $208,000–$312,000 USD for the primary Pleasanton location; additional US locations: $176,000–$312,000 USD.

What you will do

• Design, implement, and integrate intelligent-agent systems into hirify.global products.
• Develop and orchestrate complex agentic workflows using foundational models and modern AI APIs.
• Build scalable application layers around AI models for predictable, reliable, and user-friendly product experiences.
• Implement responsible and governed AI practices, including privacy guardrails, security layers, predictability, explainability, and evaluation mechanisms for sensitive HR and financial data.
• Optimize latency, cost, token usage, context-window efficiency, and overall system reliability.
• Lead engineering workstreams within a cross-functional pod and mentor junior-to-mid-level engineers.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong expertise in backend architecture, distributed systems, and API design, plus 1+ year building production-grade LLM or agentic systems; or 5+ years in Machine Learning Engineering or AI application development with 2+ years shipping LLM-backed products.
• 2+ years of hands-on experience integrating LLMs, foundation models, and modern AI APIs into user-facing enterprise products.
• 1+ year designing and scaling AI orchestration architectures, including multi-agent frameworks, routing layers, or advanced RAG pipelines.
• 4+ years optimizing application performance, including API latency and user interaction design, with 1+ year addressing modern LLM constraints such as token management, cost optimization, and context-window efficiency.
• 4+ years of experience using cloud computing platforms, such as AWS or GCP, to deploy highly responsive and scalable systems.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or an equivalent technical field.
• Strong understanding of responsible AI governance, guardrails, security layers, and evaluation mechanisms for autonomous agents handling sensitive enterprise HR and financial data.
• Proven technical leadership of engineering workstreams, ownership of the development lifecycle, and mentorship of junior-to-mid-level engineers.
• Ability to apply deep learning and large models to practical end-user problems with a strong focus on business value and user experience.
• Ability to prototype rapidly, benchmark model outputs against product requirements, and establish automated evaluation metrics for retrieval quality and agentic behavior.
• Ability to work autonomously through ambiguity and turn open-ended product goals into concrete, scalable engineering solutions.
