Software Development Engineer In Test II (Embedded Software/Firmware)

Location: Northridge, California, United States; hybrid schedule with 3–4 days in the office and 1–2 days remote.

Salary: $97,000–$165,000 USD annually for California roles; short-term incentive eligibility and benefits package included.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and execute functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end tests for embedded systems, firmware, medical devices, and software components.
• Prepare test plans, test cases, test reports, defect documentation, and traceability materials.
• Build and maintain automated test scripts using JavaScript and/or Python.
• Test Bluetooth Low Energy communication, including pairing, connectivity, synchronization, recovery, failover, and interoperability scenarios.
• Analyze logs and processing failures to identify root causes across embedded devices, hardware, and software.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and AI development teams across software lifecycle activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 0–2 years of software engineering or test automation experience; internships and co-ops count.
• Hands-on experience with embedded systems and testing embedded firmware.
• Programming experience in JavaScript and/or Python for building and maintaining automated tests.
• Experience with end-to-end functional and integration testing and test automation, including HIL and SIL test benches.
• Familiarity with source control and CI/CD tools, including Git, GitLab, and Jenkins.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills across hardware and software layers.
• Familiarity with AI tools or concepts for test design, scripting, or log analysis.

Nice to have

• Experience with medical devices or other safety-critical systems.
• Knowledge of BLE communication and security protocols.
