TL;DR
Project Engineer (Solar PV): Designing and delivering utility-scale solar PV plant projects across pre-engineering, EPC construction, commissioning, and grid integration with an accent on PVsyst modeling, electrical studies, and engineering drawing reviews. Focus on performing short-circuit, load-flow, and protection-coordination studies, supporting field construction and energization, and managing technical deliverables and design changes.

Location: San Juan, Puerto Rico; on-site. Occasional travel to solar project field locations is required.

Company

hirify.global Construct is hirify.global’s global capital projects business, delivering data centers, power grids, rail networks, factories, and public infrastructure across the Americas, EMEA, and APAC.

What you will do

  • Perform pre-engineering studies and site layout evaluations, including PVsyst generation modeling, DC/AC ratio evaluations, and grid interconnection protection requirements.
  • Conduct field walks and collaborate with EPC construction managers, lead electrical engineers, and civil design professionals to finalize site designs and scopes.
  • Review, design, and approve solar PV and substation engineering packages, including single-line diagrams, DC string layouts, AC collection systems, elementary diagrams, and civil grading plans.
  • Use PVsyst, ETAP, and CYME for short-circuit, load-flow, and protection-coordination studies for utility-scale solar plants.
  • Manage technical submittals, vendor drawings, equipment specifications, RFIs, field change requests, as-built drawings, and punch lists.
  • Support EPC construction, commissioning, energization, grid integration, engineering deliverables, design change logs, and value-engineering initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • At least five years of project engineering or design experience related to utility-scale solar PV power plants and EPC construction execution.

Nice to have

  • Experience with utility-scale solar PV and co-located battery energy storage systems.
  • Experience with substations, collector systems, or high-voltage interconnection engineering in the electric utility or renewable energy industry.
  • Experience with solar resource assessments, PVsyst modeling, cable sizing, voltage-drop calculations, EPC construction management, sub-tier contractor oversight, and field engineering during construction and commissioning.
  • Expertise in single-axis tracker mechanics, structural foundation design review, or civil site balance-of-plant design.
  • Knowledge of utility interconnection requirements, NEC Articles 690 and 705, IEEE standards, and NERC compliance standards.
  • Experience with Procore, Primavera P6, BIM 360, or Microsoft Project, and proficiency with PVsyst, Helioscope, AutoCAD, ETAP, or Bluebeam.

Culture & Benefits

  • On-site work with occasional travel to project field locations.
  • Leadership development, technical upskilling, and certification support.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage; life and disability insurance; and a 401(k) with employer match.
  • Health savings and flexible spending accounts, paid time off, holidays, and paid maternity and parental caregiver leave.
  • Adoption and surrogacy assistance, supplemental insurance, an employee assistance program, legal resources, and identity theft protection.

Hiring process

  • Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis with no fixed application deadline.
