Focus on leading power architecture, performing electrical analyses, defining safety standards, coordinating suppliers, and debugging large-scale systems.

Location: Torrance, California, United States. Onsite role with occasional travel. U.S. citizenship or another qualifying U.S. status is required for clearance and ITAR compliance.

Salary: $175,000–$245,000 USD per year for California.

Company

hirify.global develops software-defined high-power microwave systems, including AI- and microelectronics-enabled Leonidas systems designed to counter modern drone threats.

What you will do

  • Design and prototype power electronics subsystems, including prime power distribution and conversion.
  • Develop system-level power budgets and coordinate power requirements with subsystem teams.
  • Create and review power-system analyses, including EPLAs, short-circuit calculations, voltage-drop calculations, lighting calculations, harmonic analyses, and related studies.
  • Lead integration of power electronics subsystems for large-scale high-power microwave phased arrays from prototype through production.
  • Define high-voltage safety standards, conduct safety checks, and perform architecture trade studies, single-line diagrams, benchmarking, and architecture reviews.
  • Coordinate component design, testing, and evaluation with internal teams and suppliers; perform hands-on wiring, testing, debugging, and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Systems Engineering.
  • 12+ years of industry experience, preferably covering the full product lifecycle from concept through field deployment; advanced degrees may substitute for experience.
  • Ability to articulate and defend technical decisions with clear written and verbal communication.
  • Knowledge of Jira and Scrum best practices.

Nice to have

  • Experience implementing high-voltage power distribution and battery systems up to 800V.
  • Experience designing and implementing three-phase AC systems at 120V, 208V, 240V, or 480V and high-voltage DC subsystems for directed-energy systems.
  • Familiarity with fieldbus and industrial-automation protocols, including RS485, RS232, CAN, EtherCAT, and Ethernet.
  • Knowledge of applicable industry standards, including MIL-STD and IEC standards.
  • Proficiency in high-voltage/high-power wiring and harness design practices.
  • Experience with Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA).
  • Aerospace, defense, military, directed-energy, aircraft power, radar power systems, laser systems, automotive, or electric-vehicle power experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.

Culture & Benefits

  • Fast-growing, agile, creative, and innovative engineering environment.
  • Culture of constant learning, mentorship, and belonging.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Work focused on improving power efficiency and developing counter-electronics systems for drone threats.
