Deputy General Counsel, Healthcare

Location: Remote; Washington, D.C. or Boston, MA preferred. Applicants must be licensed and in good standing in a U.S. jurisdiction.

Salary: $360,000–$440,000 base annually.

What you will do

• Lead healthcare regulatory, privacy, commercial contracting, and corporate legal work across the healthcare portfolio.
• Analyze HIPAA requirements, state health privacy laws, healthcare data flows, and permitted data use.
• Draft and negotiate BAAs, vendor agreements, SaaS agreements, services agreements, and other commercial contracts.
• Assess healthcare fraud and abuse issues, including the Anti-Kickback Statute, Stark, and beneficiary inducement rules.
• Advise on telehealth, licensure, referral and compensation arrangements, and other healthcare regulatory matters.
• Work with engineers, C-suite leaders, internal teams, outside advisors, and other lawyers while reporting to the General Counsel.

Requirements

• J.D. and current license to practice in good standing in a U.S. jurisdiction.
• 12+ years of healthcare legal experience, including substantial in-house experience and independently running regulatory and commercial workstreams.
• At least 5 years working with health tech or digital healthcare companies, with direct responsibility for regulatory and privacy compliance.
• Experience managing and developing other lawyers, setting team priorities, and reviewing their work.
• Deep hands-on command of HIPAA, state health privacy laws, BAAs, health data use, and healthcare fraud and abuse rules, including the Anti-Kickback Statute, Stark, and beneficiary inducement.
• Sound, independent judgment under pressure.
• Team-oriented, high-energy, and proactive approach with a focus on getting work done and improving outcomes for others.

Nice to have

• Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts, including vendor, SaaS, and services agreements.
• Familiarity with telehealth, clinical operations, reimbursement, or FDA-regulated products.
• Experience with venture financings, equity incentive plans, and sell-side M&A.
• Experience with venture studio or incubation models or establishing a legal function at early-stage companies.
• Experience supporting venture-backed or high-growth startups.
• Experience using AI legal technology or other productivity tools.
