R&D Engineer: Test Engineering Wafer Test, Final Module Test & Characterization (Semiconductors)

Location: Regensburg, Germany. Full-time, onsite role with travel to customers and suppliers of up to 20% depending on project requirements.

What you will do

• Develop device testing at wafer, die, and module level for optoelectronic transceivers, sensor products, mixed-signal ASICs, and sensor chips.
• Define test requirements and methods for evaluation, device characterization, and production testing.
• Develop, bring up, and debug test hardware and software in-house or with external engineering partners.
• Design test application PCBs, test sockets, and probe cards, then hand over test solutions to production sites or external test houses.
• Characterize devices across specification-defined corner conditions and analyze, evaluate, and report characterization and production test results.
• Optimize wafer-level and final-module production test packages based on test data, while cooperating with IC designers, product designers, project leaders, customers, and suppliers.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or an equivalent discipline, with a focus on semiconductor devices and/or electrical or optical testing and measurement technology.
• At least 3 years of experience in semiconductor testing.
• Spoken and written proficiency in English.
• Ability to work independently and accurately, collaborate across functions and locations, and contribute effectively as a team member.
• Openness to new technical fields and motivation to become familiar with them.
• Willingness to interface with customers and suppliers and travel up to 20% of the time depending on project requirements.

Nice to have

• Deep technical expertise in testing, measurement technology, and data analysis techniques.
• Experience with oscilloscopes, SMUs, spectrum analyzers, and other discrete test or measurement equipment; familiarity with ATE equipment such as Teradyne, Advantest, or LTX is desirable.
• Good knowledge of wafer probers and different probe card technologies.
• Programming experience with Python, C++, LabVIEW, NI TestStand, C#, Java, MATLAB, similar languages, or specialized ATE programming languages.
• Experience using AI tools to support the described tasks.
• Strong technical background in semiconductors.
• Broad interest in interdisciplinary work spanning electronics, optics, fiber technology, and communication systems.
• Project experience and ability to integrate into teams across different functions and locations.
• Preparedness to learn German and acquire German communication skills.
