Associate Counsel (Insurance Defense)

Location: Remote, with a requirement to live within commutable distance of the Austin, TX office site; other listed locations include Lubbock, Corpus Christi, San Antonio, Odessa, El Paso, and Midland, Texas.

Annual salary: $104,550.00–$162,975.00.

What you will do

• Defend lawsuits filed in Texas courts and handle other first-party insurance defense matters.
• Research applicable laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
• Provide opinions to the Claims Department on liability, damages, and claim value.
• Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions, examinations before trial, and examinations under oath.
• Defend assigned matters at trial or dispositive hearings, as applicable.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree required.
• Admission to the Texas Bar required.
• Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in Texas and meet and maintain applicable licensing and Continuing Legal Education requirements.
• 2–6+ years of related field litigation experience in insurance defense and/or personal injury.
• Ability to travel as required for trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences.
• Ability to document files clearly, concisely, and professionally for customers, clients, co-workers, and other employees.
• Ability to follow complex instructions, resolve or facilitate conflict resolution, organize and prioritize work, and manage multiple tasks.
• Ability to learn and apply substantial technical and procedural information.

Nice to have

• Civil litigation experience.
• Insurance defense-related litigation experience.
• Professional communication skills in person, by telephone, and in written correspondence or email.
