Principal Test Engineer (Semiconductor)

Location: Pasir Gudang, Johor, Malaysia; onsite at the hirify.global Media Office.

What you will do

• Define and drive test strategies and execution plans across assigned product lines in a high-volume semiconductor manufacturing environment.
• Lead complex root cause investigations for test failures, equipment anomalies, and yield excursions using 8D, FMEA, Fishbone, Fault Tree Analysis, and related methods.
• Apply SPC, DOE, multivariate analysis, and other advanced data analysis techniques to identify failure patterns and implement corrective actions.
• Collaborate with process, hardware, product engineering, and quality assurance teams to integrate test requirements into production.
• Evaluate and optimize automated test equipment, fixtures, tooling, test coverage, cycle time, and first-pass yield.
• Provide technical leadership, coaching, documentation, reporting, and knowledge sharing while supporting AI and machine learning applications for test optimization, predictive maintenance, and anomaly detection.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• At least 10 years of hands-on test engineering experience in a high-volume semiconductor manufacturing environment spanning process and hardware domains.
• Experience in a multinational corporation semiconductor environment, including multi-site operations, global engineering teams, and complex stakeholder structures.
• Ability to lead and influence cross-functional engineers and technicians through technical credibility, structured thinking, and clear communication without direct line management authority.
• Practitioner-level experience with root cause analysis methodologies including 8D, FMEA, Fishbone, Fault Tree Analysis, or equivalent.
• Hands-on proficiency with Minitab, JMP, Python, pandas, numpy, or equivalent data and statistical analysis platforms.
• Expertise in test automation, automated test equipment, and semiconductor manufacturing test software.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presenting technical findings to engineering teams, quality functions, and senior leadership.
• Familiarity with ISO, IEC, RBA, and BCMS standards and compliance requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience deploying AI or machine learning for predictive yield modeling, anomaly detection, or intelligent test coverage optimization.
• Hands-on experience with Teradyne, Advantest, or Keysight automated test equipment.
• Advanced proficiency in test process optimization, NPI test readiness, and design-for-testability collaboration.
• Familiarity with HDD, NAND flash, or SSD product test environments.
• Experience driving cost reduction and test efficiency improvements at scale in a multinational manufacturing site.
• Experience with LabVIEW, NI TestStand, or equivalent test scripting and automation tools.
• Project coordination and timeline management in a manufacturing setting.
