Senior Backend Engineer (C#/.NET)

Location: Remote; London, Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Dublin, Edinburgh, Lisbon, Madrid, Manchester, or Newcastle, collaborating during core GMT working hours.

What you will do

• Build and operate distributed C# and .NET microservices hosted on Azure and orchestrated with Kubernetes.
• Develop event-driven systems supporting products used at significant scale across multiple African markets.
• Own services end to end from design and implementation through deployment, production operation, and iteration.
• Use Grafana, Azure Application Insights, logs, traces, and metrics to understand production behavior.
• Apply AI tools such as Claude for design exploration, code generation and review, test writing, incident investigation, and technical communication.
• Participate in on-call operations and improve resilience through automated tests, SLOs, alerting, observability, and deployment safeguards.

Requirements

• Senior-level engineering experience with strong C# and .NET development skills.
• Experience with event-driven systems and messaging technologies such as Azure Service Bus, Kafka, or RabbitMQ.
• Experience with microservices architecture, ideally on Azure and Kubernetes.
• Experience using observability tools such as Grafana or Application Insights to understand production behavior.
• Comfort using AI tools in daily engineering workflows, including design, code review, testing, and incident investigation.
• DevOps culture mindset, including on-call participation and ownership of production systems.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in distributed teams across time zones.
• Continuous learning mindset and openness to feedback.
• Curiosity, autonomy, trustworthiness, and willingness to own the full software stack and its supporting infrastructure throughout the lifecycle.
