Snr Journalist, News Social (Weekend)

Location: Birmingham, Cardiff, Glasgow or Salford, United Kingdom. The role requires working Thursday through Sunday, including early or late shifts. Flexible working can be discussed at the application and offer stages.

Salary: £42,000–£52,000 per year, depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience.

What you will do

• Oversee weekend social publishing across hirify.global News platforms, maintaining editorial standards during major news moments.
• Edit and optimise scripts, headlines, copy, thumbnails and visual treatments for accuracy, clarity and platform-specific performance.
• Collaborate with correspondents and reporters to develop social-first treatments informed by audience insight, data and social listening.
• Produce, shape and edit social video and visual news content.
• Coordinate daily social workflows and support fast, accurate publishing during breaking news.
• Contribute to editorial planning across UK, political and international news coverage while balancing speed, accuracy and editorial judgement.

Requirements

• Proven ability to create, write, sub-edit and publish news across major social platforms and all formats, with strong attention to accuracy, tone and platform nuance.
• Strong editorial judgement and experience covering breaking news at national or international level, including real-time editorial decision-making.
• Ability to collaborate across teams, remain calm under pressure, maintain high standards and provide constructive feedback.
• Proficiency with Final Cut Pro and Photoshop, plus experience overseeing the full production cycle of social or digital video news content.
• Deep understanding of social audience behaviour, including content discovery, moderation and sharing, with the ability to turn insight into recommendations and new ideas.
• Comfort using analytics tools to interpret performance data, identify patterns and inform daily decisions and longer-term strategy.
• Keen understanding of news consumption trends on social media platforms.
