Editor - PeerJ Computer Science

Location: Hybrid, with a minimum of three days per week in the Milton Park office, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom. Candidates must live within a commutable distance. The office is expected to relocate to Oxford city centre in late 2027 or early 2028.

Salary: £39,410 per year plus a 5% bonus.

What you will do

• Support the editorial and strategic development of PeerJ Computer Science and advise the Chief Editor on scientific and editorial standards.
• Provide expert guidance to desk editors, manage complex peer review issues, and oversee peer review when an academic editor is unavailable.
• Recruit, vet, train, and manage Editorial Board members and conduct Editorial Board meetings with the Chief Editor.
• Conduct ethical investigations, contribute to journal policies and author instructions, and commission high-quality content.
• Promote manuscript submissions and the journal through relevant channels, conferences, outreach, and engagement with the academic community.
• Collaborate across departments to address publishing academics' needs, improve peer review processes, and develop the journal program.

Requirements

• Advanced degree required, with a minimum of a PhD; postdoctoral experience is preferred.
• Knowledge of the academic publishing industry.
• Excellent written and verbal English comprehension and communication skills.
• Ability to understand complex scientific topics and confidently communicate academic concepts to academics and broader audiences.
• Strong analytical, decision-making, problem-solving, presentation, organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, work independently, communicate upstream and downstream within the organisation, and meet strict deadlines.
• Positive, flexible, and highly motivated attitude, with persistence in overcoming obstacles and a willingness to support team success.
• Willingness to travel as required by the company.
