Staff Software Engineer, Frontend (Decisions Orechestration)

Location: Remote US; Remote Canada also available under other locations. Most roles can be performed remotely within the country of employment, with occasional in-person work possible and in-person onboarding for new hires.

Base pay: $230,000–$290,000 for CA, WA, NY, NJ, and CT; $204,000–$264,000 for all other U.S. states. Total compensation may also include equity, monthly health, wellness, and technology stipends, and benefits.

What you will do

• Set technical strategy for the Decisions Orchestration team over a year-long horizon and connect it to critical business-impacting projects.
• Lead the design of the next generation of Affirm’s checkout experience across shopper-facing screens, downstream orchestration, and state management.
• Collaborate with product management, design, analytics, and engineering teams to manage technical sustainability, risks, and trade-offs.
• Define and advocate for technical solutions and operational processes, including monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, alerting, and on-call readiness.
• Establish code review and design standards, communicate technical practices through writing and tech talks, and foster quality and ownership.
• Develop team talent through feedback, guidance, and leading by example.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience developing and architecting web applications using declarative UI frameworks such as React or Vue.
• Proficiency with JavaScript and TypeScript.
• Experience delivering major features or system components, or deprecating existing functionality, through a defined technical and execution plan.
• Ability to write high-quality code that is easily understood and used by others.
• Comfort working from low-level language idioms through the architecture of large systems and navigating ambiguity.
• Demonstrated growth and impact through gathering and iterating on feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team.
• Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
