Backend Software Engineer (Golang)

Location: Hybrid, San Francisco, US

Annual salary: $157.4K–$217.8K, plus equity and benefits.

What you will do

• Deliver large production projects and new product capabilities while maintaining key code repositories.
• Design, build, and operate identity and account management systems covering registration, sign-in, OTP/MFA verification, social login, account linking, and identity provider integrations.
• Architect and implement performant APIs and data models, profile systems, and resolve root causes of incidents and scaling bottlenecks.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to roadmap and execute technical strategies.
• Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, pairing, and onboarding support.
• Improve maintainability, availability, performance, architecture, developer tooling, and AI-enabled product capabilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of non-internship, full-time professional software development experience.
• 4+ years of experience with at least one programming language and 4+ years across the full software development lifecycle.
• Experience delivering large software projects or features in a production environment.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language, such as Golang, Python, Java, or JavaScript.
• Practical knowledge of cloud-based services and technologies such as gRPC, protobufs, Temporal, Docker/Kubernetes, and AWS.
• Experience building or maintaining user identity, authentication, or account management systems, including registration, sign-in, credential or identity linking, and role-based authorization.
• Hands-on experience with an identity provider platform such as Auth0, Okta, or similar, including OIDC, SAML, SSO, passwordless or social authentication, and identity provider APIs.

Nice to have

• Experience with data ingestion, integration, and security.
• Deep Auth0 or comparable identity provider experience, including management and authentication APIs, organizations, event streams, or tenant and connection configuration.
• Familiarity with IAM concepts, MFA, entity resolution or deduplication, and credential lifecycle management.
• Experience with Temporal or similar durable workflow engines for user lifecycle operations.
• Experience with AI technologies for software design and coding assistance.
• Experience mentoring or onboarding junior engineers.
• Familiarity with distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, scalable architectures, healthcare technology, regulated environments, or Agile development practices.
