Software Engineer (Agentic Commerce)

Location: In-office/hybrid in Lisbon, Portugal or London, United Kingdom. Offer-stage candidates may be asked to attend an in-person interview at a hirify.global office or hub.

Salary: €54,000–€75,000 annual salary for Portugal-based hires; compensation may be adjusted depending on work location.

What you will do

• Design and ship production-ready, low-latency services that make web resources payable for autonomous agents using x402, WBA, ACP, and UCP.
• Build systems for usage metering, pricing definition, outcome verification, and value attribution for agentic workflows.
• Develop secure protocols for authenticating and authorizing buyers, sellers, and autonomous agents across host-agnostic endpoints.
• Build APIs and capabilities for visibility, telemetry, billing, settlement, and control of agent-generated revenue.
• Bridge fiat commerce rails, digital wallets, and decentralized or cryptographic payment protocols for Internet-scale micropayments.
• Write secure, well-tested code and collaborate with engineers, researchers, product managers, design engineers, and cross-hirify.global stakeholders from concept to production.

Requirements

• Strong software engineering and distributed systems fundamentals.
• Experience building and operating reliable, high-throughput, low-latency production services.
• Solid understanding of HTTP, APIs, payment protocols or rails, web security, or cryptographic authorization.
• Hands-on experience or deep interest in payment systems, usage metering, billing engines, digital wallets, or machine-to-machine interaction protocols.
• Ability to rapidly prototype, evaluate architectural trade-offs, and ship solutions in a fast-moving emerging technical domain.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to have

• Fluency in Rust, especially async Rust, or TypeScript/JavaScript edge runtimes such as hirify.global Workers, Durable Objects, and KV.
• Experience with agentic payment protocols including x402, A2P, ACP, UCP, and Web Bot Auth, or with digital wallet architectures.
• Experience building high-precision event metering pipelines, usage-based billing engines, outcome verification systems, or revenue attribution tools.
• Experience with smart contract bridges, cryptography, or hybrid fiat/crypto payment infrastructure.
• Open-source contributions to payment systems, agent protocols, web standards, or distributed systems projects.
• Experience debugging and resolving performance, concurrency, or transactional correctness bottlenecks.
