Engineering Manager (AI Automation)

Location: San Francisco, United States; hybrid work location. Roles are currently set up for employment in the United States.

Base pay: $260,000–$360,000 per year. Additional equity and/or commission may apply depending on the position offered.

What you will do

• Lead a fullstack engineering team building workflows, integrations, and AI-driven agents.
• Partner with Product and Design to define strategy and roadmap based on customer needs and business impact.
• Guide architecture for workflow execution, state management, service integrations, observability, and system reliability.
• Shape production operation of AI agents, including autonomous execution, human oversight, debugging, and recovery.
• Drive delivery from scoping through launch and iteration while balancing experimentation, reliability, and maintainability.
• Work with customers, go-to-market partners, Recruiting, and engineers to translate business processes into reusable automation capabilities and build a strong team.

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience successfully leading and managing engineering teams.
• Strong technical judgment, with the ability to navigate a codebase and engage deeply in design and architecture decisions, although regular coding is not expected.
• Experience setting technical direction and delivering complex systems, ideally involving workflows, distributed systems, integrations, or developer-facing products.
• Strong product instincts and the ability to connect technical decisions to customer needs, shape priorities with Product, and identify capabilities serving multiple use cases.
• A point of view on AI-driven automation and making intelligent systems useful and dependable in production.
• Sound judgment when balancing delivery speed, system reliability, and long-term maintainability.
• Experience coaching engineers, managing performance, recruiting, and building strong teams.
• Business-owner mindset with deep care for customers, product, and team; comfort with ambiguity, incomplete information, and accountability.
• Clear, direct communication and effective partnership across engineering, product, design, and go-to-market teams.
