Backend Developer (Java)

Location: Hybrid position based out of the Roseville, CA office; candidates must live within commuting distance and be authorized to work in the United States without employer-sponsored work authorization.

Salary: $98,000–$120,000 per year.

What you will do

• Develop, test, debug, maintain, and document Java-based business applications and application components.
• Write and troubleshoot SQL, validate data, and investigate defects using code, logs, and database information.
• Develop and maintain unit tests and support application testing.
• Participate in code reviews and follow development, security, and change-management standards.
• Document changes, communicate progress and dependencies, and collaborate with developers, business analysts, and testing teams.
• Support application deployments and production issue resolution.

Requirements

• 3+ years of related work experience.
• High School Diploma or equivalent combination of training and experience required; Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of training and experience required.
• Working knowledge of core Java and object-oriented programming concepts.
• Ability to write and troubleshoot SQL statements and understand relational database concepts.
• Basic understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for developing and maintaining user interfaces.
• Familiarity with version-control systems such as Git.
• Ability to understand existing application code and implement enhancements and defect fixes.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, effective written and verbal communication, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Ability to prioritize work, communicate obstacles, and follow through on assignments.

Nice to have

• Experience with application maintenance, production support, or deployment activities.
• Experience with Spring Boot and Hibernate.
• Experience developing or consuming REST APIs and working with JSON or XML.
• Exposure to unit-testing frameworks such as JUnit or Mockito.
• Familiarity with Maven or Gradle, Docker and Kubernetes, Elasticsearch or OpenSearch, Vue.js, AWS or Azure, and secure coding practices such as the OWASP Top 10.
• Insurance industry knowledge.
