Senior Software Engineer (AWS Storage)

Location: Remote across Australia or from any country where hirify.global has a legal entity; office, home, or hybrid work options are available. The office is in Sydney, Australia.

What you will do

• Design, build, and optimize high-performance, scalable, and resilient backend storage solutions on AWS.
• Develop distributed storage systems, APIs, and backend services with low latency, high throughput, and fault tolerance.
• Define technical roadmaps with principal engineers, architects, SREs, and product teams; improve storage efficiency, access patterns, and cost efficiency.
• Implement performance tuning, data modeling, caching, infrastructure automation, security practices, monitoring, and observability across AWS storage services.
• Troubleshoot production incidents involving data integrity, latency spikes, storage failures, and API bottlenecks; maintain high availability and disaster recovery readiness.
• Mentor junior engineers, participate in design reviews and architecture discussions, and promote CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and observability-driven development.

Requirements

• 8+ years of backend software development experience, with proficiency in Kotlin or Java.
• Experience building high-performance, scalable microservices and APIs, with strong knowledge of RESTful APIs, gRPC, and event-driven architectures.
• Hands-on experience with AWS S3, DynamoDB, EBS, EFS, FSx, and Glacier; knowledge of IAM, KMS, data access policies, VPC, PrivateLink, and Route 53.
• Understanding of distributed databases, storage consistency models, caching, sharding, partitioning, and load balancing.
• Familiarity with AWS SNS, SQS, Kinesis, or Kafka for event-driven architectures.
• Experience profiling and optimizing storage performance, indexing, data retrieval latency, tiering, lifecycle policies, and data deduplication; knowledge of CloudWatch, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and Grafana.
• Experience with encryption at rest and in transit using AWS KMS or TLS, IAM roles, STS, fine-grained permissions, backup strategies, and multi-region replication.
• Experience with Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or CDK; CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, CodePipeline, or Jenkins; containerized deployments with Docker and Kubernetes (EKS); and serverless solutions using Lambda or Fargate.
• Strong debugging, observability, tracing, incident triage, code review, unit testing, API contract enforcement, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
