Sr Staff Engineer, Software - Backend, AI Observability/Evaluations (Chronosphere)

Location: Remote role associated with Victoria, Australia

What you will do

• Build backend capabilities for observing and evaluating AI models, agents, and retrieval-augmented generation applications before and during production.
• Design systems for systematic testing, measurement, and benchmarking of AI application accuracy, relevance, performance, and safety.
• Build scalable APIs and data-processing systems that contextualize AI telemetry and evaluation results.
• Shape the technical roadmap and architecture for AI Observability and Evaluation.
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and customers to scope, validate, and deliver integrated features and developer workflows.
• Improve system observability, distributed-system performance, reliability, cost efficiency, and engineering standards while mentoring engineers.

Requirements

• 3–5+ years of software engineering experience.
• Strong experience with one or more backend languages, such as Go, Java, Python, or Rust.
• Experience building and operating highly available production systems.
• Experience with cloud infrastructure, including AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience designing APIs at scale using REST, gRPC, or GraphQL.
• Experience working effectively with cross-functional partners and owning projects from inception through delivery.
• Ability to work autonomously with sound judgment and to collaborate effectively in a supportive environment.
• Ability to operate effectively in a remote-first environment.
• Experience using AI coding assistants such as Cursor, Codex, or Claude in daily software development.

• Experience developing LLM-powered product features.
