Manager, Software Engineering - AI Observability (Chronosphere)

What you will do

• Partner with the product manager to assess customer needs, shape the roadmap, and drive delivery.
• Balance strategic investments with customer requests while maintaining a predictable delivery cadence.
• Guide architectural decisions, technical designs, and engineering trade-offs for scalable backend systems.
• Hire, onboard, coach, and support the career growth of engineers while evolving team norms and delivery practices.
• Monitor production SLOs, SLAs, and system health, taking action to meet reliability goals.
• Partner with security and compliance teams on reviews, audits, and customer commitments.

Requirements

• 3–5+ years of people management experience.
• Empathy for customers and engineers, with the ability to help the team deliver high-quality work.
• Strong product sense and the ability to hold technical and product perspectives simultaneously.
• Familiarity with enterprise software and end-user expectations.
• Experience shaping team operations, norms, working agreements, delivery cadence, and cross-team interfaces.
• Ability to partner with a product manager on a roadmap accounting for trade-offs, customer commitments, compliance requirements, and product strategy.
• Technical depth to assess design risk, understand critical code paths, and evaluate engineering trade-offs; infrastructure software experience with comparable reliability and performance is preferred.
• Direct experience managing engineers, supporting career growth, improving proficiency, and holding engineers accountable to clear expectations.
• Experience partnering with recruiting, making hiring decisions, closing hires, and building a diverse and inclusive engineering team, including attracting, closing, and retaining engineers at multiple levels.
