TL;DR
Simulation Engineering Intern (C++): Building and validating simulation, rendering, and physics-modeling components for self-driving vehicle development with an accent on sensor simulation, behavioral simulation, and performance-sensitive C++ systems. Focus on modeling 3D geometry and vehicle behavior, systematically verifying simulation correctness against ground-truth data, and optimizing pipelines running at scale.
Location: Mountain View or San Francisco, California, United States; listed as remote, with office attendance expected at least 3 days per week and up to 5 days based on operational needs.
Hourly pay: $52.00 for interns pursuing a bachelor's degree; $58.00 for interns pursuing a master's degree.
Company
hirify.global develops self-driving technology for mobility and logistics, including the hirify.global Driver.
What you will do
Build or extend simulation, rendering, and physics-modeling components used to validate the hirify.global Driver.
Develop performance-sensitive simulation code in C++, using Python for tooling.
Apply 3D mathematics and geometry to sensor simulation, or vehicle dynamics and behavior modeling to behavioral simulation.
Validate simulation outputs against measured or ground-truth data rather than relying only on visual inspection.
Profile and improve simulation pipelines running at scale.
Requirements
Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Graphics, Physics, or a related field.
Built a simulator, renderer, physics engine, game engine, or robotics simulation rather than only using an existing one.
Personal or research-project experience with C++.
Depth in at least one relevant specialization: rendering or ray tracing, GPU programming, physically based materials or optics, lidar/radar or signal processing, vehicle dynamics or controls, motion planning or agent behavior, real-time simulation architecture, 3D content pipelines, or ML for 3D.
Systematically verified the correctness of a simulation or model rather than relying only on visual inspection.
Nice to have
Prior internship or production-level C++ experience.
Experience with GPU-accelerated ray tracing or texturing.
Culture & Benefits
Work alongside experienced engineers on complex self-driving technology problems.
In-person collaboration is emphasized, with office work expected at least 3 days per week and up to 5 days depending on operational needs.
Values include integrity, ambitious goals, collaboration, safety, trust, and inclusion.
Reasonable accommodations are available for qualified applicants with disabilities and disabled veterans.
