Senior Software Engineer (C++)

Location: San Mateo, California, United States; office-based roles are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday.

Salary: $196,750–$243,290 USD base pay annually; full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and benefits.

What you will do

• Develop C++ engine code for subsystems critical to the Roblox game engine.
• Harmonize resource usage so gameplay works across devices with different CPU, memory, and bandwidth capabilities.
• Develop optimization techniques to improve player engagement.
• Build and maintain software across mobile phone clients and cloud-based servers.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience solving complex, system-level problems in large-scale codebases.
• Good understanding of core systems fundamentals and low-level performance considerations.
• Experience working in the guts of a game engine or a strong passion for learning game engine technology.
• Curiosity and willingness to learn and stay up to date with technology development.

Nice to have

• Strong C++ experience.
• Experience developing and shipping machine learning models.
