Staff Software Engineer, UI Tooling

Location: US - Remote Eligible; must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity. Occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites may be required as agreed with the manager.

Base pay: $212,000–$265,000 USD, with potential eligibility for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.

What you will do

• Lead the Kyber prototyping and rapid deployment platform used by thousands of internal projects and users.
• Rebuild Kyber on next-generation cloud platforms and evolve its capabilities for product development.
• Set technical direction and make architectural decisions for rapid deployment of internal applications and product feature prototypes.
• Write and review code, including work with AI coding agents, while establishing standards for quality, availability, and system health.
• Partner with Infrastructure, Product, Security, and Design to translate cross-organizational objectives into platform capabilities.
• Mentor engineers and advance prototyping capabilities for product managers, designers, and other non-technical builders.

Requirements

• 9+ years of industry experience, ideally in fast-paced environments, with a track record of delivering large-scale service-oriented systems.
• Broad full-stack engineering capability across backend, frontend, mobile, APIs, and system architecture.
• Proven experience building customer-facing products from zero to one, including product definition, technical architecture, development, and launch.
• End-to-end product ownership, including iterating on launched products, responding to customer feedback, and improving adoption, usability, and business outcomes.
• Strong architectural design skills covering high-scale distributed services, APIs, data pipelines, efficient algorithms, and reliable integrations.
• Sound technical judgment balancing delivery speed, experimentation, scalability, and long-term engineering quality.
• A product-first engineering mindset, with technical decisions serving customer-facing products.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, including experience driving initiatives across teams, departments, and leadership.
