Extension Agent (CED, Liberty County)

Location: Cleveland, Texas; housed at 501 Palmer St. A, Liberty, TX 77575. Must reside in Liberty County and travel throughout the geographic area served, including occasional night, weekend, and out-of-county meetings or events.

Prairie View A&M University’s Cooperative Extension Program delivers educational and community development programs in partnership with federal, state, local, and community organizations.

What you will do

• Plan, implement, teach, and evaluate Community and Economic Development educational programs.
• Provide technical assistance to entrepreneurs, small business owners, agribusinesses, and landowners on financial resources, business planning, marketing, budgeting, grant writing, and business development.
• Deliver workshops and programs on small business lending, government contracting, credit, debt management, youth entrepreneurship, and asset building.
• Work with economic development agencies, nonprofits, civic groups, local governments, stakeholders, and Extension staff on county, regional, and multi-county initiatives.
• Conduct needs assessments and impact evaluations, document program effectiveness, and disseminate relevant research.
• Support media outreach through internet radio blogs, interviews, and Extension publications, and participate in college-wide events and committees.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Ability to reside in Liberty County.
• Access to a personal vehicle, a valid Texas Driver’s License, appropriate insurance coverage, and willingness to travel for official duties.
• Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
• Technical competence in the relevant subject matter and ability to apply knowledge to solve problems.
• Understanding of youth and adult learning and development processes.
• Knowledge of varied teaching methods for effective learning experiences.
• Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others, with strong written and oral communication skills.
• No prior experience is required.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in Business, Accounting, Economic Development, Community Development, or a related field.
• One to three years of experience delivering programs for underserved and underrepresented audiences.
• Experience in volunteer management and developing educational presentations.
• Knowledge of the 1890 Land-grant system and philosophy.
• Proficient or advanced knowledge of Microsoft Suite applications.
