Early Childhood Mathematics Assessment Specialist

Location: Fully remote, USA; candidates must live and work within the USA. Required travel ranges from 1 to 8 weeks per year, with trips lasting 2–5 days.

What you will do

• Develop, review, and provide quality assurance for mathematics assessment items aligned with approved item and test specifications.
• Support the refinement of item specifications, scoring rubrics, scoring guides, and assessment frameworks.
• Review state educational standards and content requirements to ensure valid and reliable assessment alignment.
• Interpret disaggregated student performance data to inform content decisions and learning standards frameworks.
• Collaborate with item writers, consultants, editors, psychometricians, program managers, and clients throughout the assessment development lifecycle.
• Ensure mathematical accuracy, developmental appropriateness, and cultural relevance of assessment materials.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education.
• 5–8 years of experience developing, reviewing, or supporting statewide or national educational assessments, including at least 4 years working in K–2 elementary education, specifically early-childhood mathematics.
• Knowledge and understanding of foundational learning progressions.
• Experience aligning instructional or assessment content to state standards and specific market or program requirements.
• Data skills, attention to detail, and the ability to identify problems and conceptualize solutions.
• Ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines and provide sound content-based guidance to clients regarding K–2 products.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams in a cross-disciplinary environment.
• Ability to travel 2–5 days at a time for the required annual travel.

Nice to have

• Awareness of early childhood formative products and experience creating district-level mathematics assessments.
• Graduate degree in Education, Mathematics, Assessment, or a related field.
• Experience in educational publishing, curriculum development, or large-scale assessment programs.
• Experience with digital assessment platforms and collaborative, technology-enabled authoring environments.
• Understanding of assessment validity, reliability, and accessibility considerations for early learners.
