Manufacturing Engineer (Gear Machining / Powertrain)

Location: Dearborn, Michigan, United States. Fully onsite at the work location.

What you will do

• Support manufacturing process engineering activities for gear machining operations and ensure capable processes and tools are available.
• Support manufacturing launches, production readiness, production ramp-up, and operational performance objectives.
• Drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, productivity, process variability, and throughput.
• Complete PPAP quality launch documentation and create process documentation and work instruction sheets.
• Develop action plans, investigate open issues, verify corrective actions, and lead process audits across internal and supplier processes.
• Conduct ergonomic evaluations, implement corrective actions, and support ISO 14001 compliance and environmental audits.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of related experience.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Experience in machining, gear machining, lean manufacturing, and Statistical Process Control (SPC).
• Experience with Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
• Strong leadership, interpersonal, team-building, and communication skills.
• Ability to demonstrate effective collaboration and leadership in a manufacturing environment.

Nice to have

• Bachelor's degree.
• Understanding of hypoid bevel gear manufacturing processes, including blanking, milling, hobbing, grinding, heat treatment, shot peening, hard turning, and lapping.
• Experience with Q-DAS, Minitab, Klingelnberg P40, and Gleason Nano gear CMMs.
• Lean Six Sigma experience.
• Experience with root cause analysis and corrective action using 8D and 5 Whys.
• Knowledge of 5S, Kanban, Poka-Yoke, and Value Stream Mapping.
• Experience with DMAIC, DMADV, DFSS, FMEA, PPAP, and DOE methodologies.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
