Director of Advisory Services in Internal Controls, SOX, and Risk Advisory

Location: Hybrid in Atlanta, GA; Dallas, TX; Denver, CO; Houston, TX; New York; or Southern California, United States

Compensation: $165,000–$272,000 per year, plus bonus eligibility

What you will do

• Lead delivery of advisory services in internal controls, SOX compliance, and risk advisory, aligning engagements with client objectives and regulatory requirements.
• Develop engagement strategies, direct assessments of internal control environments, and advise clients on risk management and compliance practices.
• Serve as the executive-level client liaison, manage expectations, communicate project status, and present recommendations or operational and financial deficiencies.
• Oversee project execution, including priorities, schedules, budgets, deliverables, status reporting, and daily coordination of project teams.
• Mentor and provide strategic direction to Consultants from Associate through Associate Director levels.
• Grow the advisory practice by identifying expansion opportunities, improving methodologies and service offerings, monitoring emerging risks, and building industry relationships.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in external audit, risk advisory, or a related field, with demonstrated leadership in these areas.
• Demonstrated ability to manage and lead complex engagements with strategic oversight and high-quality delivery.
• Extensive experience mentoring and developing teams in a collaborative work environment.
• In-depth knowledge of business risks, internal controls over financial reporting, SOX compliance, and the COSO framework, with the ability to apply this knowledge practically.
• Experience managing client relationships, building trust, and establishing credibility as a strategic advisor.
• Ability to maintain the technical competency and professional care required under COSO, COBIT, auditing standards, and related control techniques.
• Visionary leadership focused on advisory practice growth, thought leadership, methodology development, and service enhancement.

Nice to have

• CPA, CIA, and/or CISA certification is highly preferred.
