Director, Government Risk Consulting

Location: Des Moines, with other listed locations in the Atlanta Metro Area, Nashville, and Austin. Hybrid workstyle aligned to an hirify.global office; travel is required based on client and engagement needs.

Compensation Range: $126,500–$254,700 annually, plus eligibility for a discretionary performance-based bonus.

What you will do

• Lead complex government risk, internal audit, internal controls, compliance, governance, and risk assessment engagements from planning through execution.
• Advise federal, state, local, and other public sector clients on emerging risks, regulatory requirements, operational challenges, and leading practices.
• Build relationships with agency executives, finance and audit leaders, audit committees, oversight bodies, and other senior stakeholders.
• Lead, manage, mentor, and develop teams across multiple concurrent client engagements.
• Support practice growth through proposals, RFP responses, scoping, pricing, presentations, pursuit strategy, and market relationships.
• Develop thought leadership and collaborate across risk, consulting, audit, technology, business development, and marketing teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting, business, finance, public administration, or a related discipline.
• At least 8 years of relevant experience in internal audit, internal controls, risk, compliance, or advisory work, including at least 5 years in public accounting or professional services.
• Significant experience serving government or public sector organizations and understanding their governance, risk, compliance, and operational environments.
• Experience leading complex internal audit, risk assessment, internal controls, compliance, and/or governance engagements.
• Relevant professional certification such as CPA, CIA, CISA, or another applicable risk or audit credential.
• Experience building senior-level client relationships and communicating with executives, audit committees, agency leadership, and other stakeholders.
• Experience supporting business development, proposals, pursuits, and market-facing activities in a professional services environment.
• Strong written, verbal, presentation, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lead multiple engagements and teams simultaneously while maintaining quality and client service.
