The FT World Desk Fellowship

Location: United Kingdom; six-month fellowship based in the FT's London newsroom, 35 hours per week from Monday to Friday, starting in Spring 2027. Applicants must have the right to work in the United Kingdom.

Salary: £2,500 monthly bursary.

What you will do

• Work with World News Desk editors to help deliver global news coverage.
• Collaborate with the Africa, Europe, Latin America and Middle East editors on regional coverage.
• Support correspondents with research, story ideas, data and visual elements.
• Write original stories and learn to conceive and craft FT-style journalism with mentoring from senior editors.
• Report on complex and sensitive international stories under deadline pressure.

Requirements

• Demonstrated interest in international affairs.
• Intention to pursue a journalism career covering global news.
• Ability to remain calm under deadline pressure.
• Strong commitment to accurate and objective writing.
• Applicants must be Black candidates; the opportunity is designed to address historical under-representation in the media.
• Applicants must have the right to work in the United Kingdom.
• Submit a CV, a cover letter explaining suitability and contribution, and an unpublished article on an international story of up to 600 words.

Nice to have

• Some journalism experience is preferable but not essential.
• Career change applications are welcome.

Hiring process
