Senior Applied Scientist (AI/ML)

Location: Newark, New Jersey, US; an additional position location is Seattle, Washington, US.

Base salary: $183,800–$248,700 annually in Newark; $167,100–$226,100 annually in Seattle. Additional compensation may include sign-on payments and restricted stock units.

What you will do

• Solve complex, ambiguous business problems by designing, extending, and inventing scalable, efficient, and automated scientific solutions.
• Build and productionize machine learning models and deliver impactful product features with scientists and software engineers at hirify.global and Amazon.
• Lead the design, development, and production deployment of end-to-end solutions for content understanding, recommendations, and GenAI-based product features.
• Define system-level requirements, write critical-path code, and develop reusable science components and services.
• Review peer models, manage business and customer-experience risks, and drive initiatives using advances in ML, AI, and GenAI.
• Lead the scientific agenda, author peer-reviewed publications, mentor scientists, and build consensus across teams.

Requirements

• PhD with 5+ years of research experience, or a Master’s degree with 10+ years of research experience in Machine Learning, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Applied Math, or a related quantitative field.
• 5+ years of experience in Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing/Understanding, GenAI, and/or Reinforcement Learning.
• Experience developing and deploying LLMs in production on GPUs, Neuron, TPU, or other AI acceleration hardware, or experience in machine learning, data mining, information retrieval, statistics, or natural language processing.
• Experience working with Data and AI technologies, including AI/ML, GenAI, analytics, databases, and/or storage.
• Experience building machine learning models or developing algorithms for business applications.
• Experience with recommendation systems and/or large-scale content understanding systems.
• Experience with large-scale online experimentation and A/B testing to validate science solutions in production.
• Experience delivering science solutions into production systems and using Python, SQL, and other scripting languages.
• Experience with machine learning pipeline orchestration using AWS SageMaker, Batch, Lambda, Step Functions, or similar cloud platforms; Agile software development; and at least one compiled language such as Java, C++, or C#.
• Experience mentoring scientists, leading science and design reviews across teams, and applying domain knowledge from comparable digital or retail products.
• Publication authorship at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals, with citations from other scientists.
