Senior AI Scientist (Credit Karma)

Location: Oakland or Mountain View, California, United States; onsite role.

Base pay: $180,000–$243,500 per year in Oakland or Mountain View, California. The position may also be eligible for a cash bonus, equity rewards, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead the development of large-scale models predicting what members need and when they need it across multiple financial verticals.
• Build recommendation logic balancing immediate revenue with long-term member trust and lifetime value.
• Define business metrics with engineering, product, marketing, finance, and analytics partners, including revenue, engagement, and user experience.
• Represent Data Science in cross-functional meetings and explain complex technical subjects to business partners.
• Solve problems involving deep learning, reinforcement learning, recommendation systems, and generative AI for personal finance products.
• Identify problems, propose solutions, and take models through to production on large-scale projects.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, or a related quantitative discipline.
• 5+ years of experience building and deploying machine learning models in production, ideally in consumer technology, fintech, or e-commerce.
• Expert proficiency in Python and SQL, with deep experience in modern machine learning and deep learning frameworks.
• Experience with ranking, retrieval, and multi-stage recommendation architectures.
• Ability to explain complex AI concepts to non-technical stakeholders and connect model performance with business outcomes.

Nice to have

• Experience using AI to drive monetization, member engagement, and longer-term member value.
• Experience with large-scale AI systems spanning machine learning and generative AI, AI infrastructure, data foundations, and self-serve analytics through data science methods.
• Experience in an Ads or Marketplace environment involving trade-offs between different product categories.
• Ability to work effectively in fast-paced environments at large scale.
