Senior Computational Scientist (AI/ML)

Location: Onsite at the Springfield, VA customer site and Fairfax, VA corporate site; must be a US citizen and hold an active Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information clearance with CI Poly eligibility.

Salary: $180,000–$250,000 annually.

What you will do

• Lead the design, implementation, validation, scaling, and deployment of advanced mathematical, statistical, computational, and simulation models.
• Develop predictive analytics, pattern-of-life analysis, remote sensing change detection, and other AI/ML solutions for structured and unstructured mission datasets.
• Optimize, parallelize, and scale scientific software across hybrid GPU/CPU cluster architectures.
• Manage the full computational algorithm lifecycle, including design, training, production deployment, maintenance, performance, observability, and security.
• Build scalable infrastructure, integration layers, real-time dashboards, and automated pipelines for secure AI operations.
• Translate mission needs with aerospace, cybersecurity, and intelligence domain experts; prepare white papers, proposals, technical documentation, and potential peer-reviewed publications; mentor junior scientists, engineers, and data analysts.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Computational Science, Applied Physics, or Electrical Engineering.
• 5 to 8+ years of post-Ph.D. experience leading computational science initiatives, preferably in defense, national laboratories, or advanced aerospace/computing industries.
• Mastery of high-performance scientific programming languages, including Python, C++, Java, or Matlab.
• Advanced data analysis and data science methodologies for predictive modeling, pattern-of-life analysis, and change detection analysis.
• Extensive Linux/Unix development experience with Bash, Csh, Awk, or Perl; modern CI/CD pipelines such as GitLab; and Docker/Kubernetes containerization.
• Strong AWS expertise across compute, storage, networking, and IAM.
• Deep expertise in parallel programming models such as CUDA and cuDNN.
• Strong AI/ML foundation, including implementation of agentic workflows with MCP and prompt engineering, plus experience with LLM applications.
• Ability to synthesize abstract mathematical concepts into BLUF-style executive briefings; strong communication and collaboration skills with project managers, stakeholders, vendors, and technical staff.
• Understanding of model evaluation metrics such as precision, recall, and AUC; statistical drift detection; and time-series, spatial, RDF, and relational databases.

• ETL pipeline development and management with AWS Glue or Apache Airflow.
• Experience supporting DoD, Intelligence Community, or other U.S. Government programs.
• Understanding of cybersecurity accreditation processes.
• Computer graphics, computer vision AI/ML, remote sensing including SAR, EO/IR, and MSI, and GIS.
• PCA/LDA, KNN, DBSCAN, clustering, Bayesian science, Bayes naive networks, reinforcement learning including RLHF, PPO, and DQN, dynamic programming, VAEs, RAG with graph and relational databases, optimization algorithms, and Kalman filtering.
• Network and RF communications, signal processing including Fourier analysis and CAF, HPC, and parallel programming.
• RDF Graph DB, Oracle 26ai Spatial DB, PostgreSQL, Elastic, and MongoDB for data engineering workflows.
• Data governance, metadata management, and compliance frameworks.
