Software Development Engineer, Early Career

Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA; full-time, 40 hours per week, with overtime as required.

Starting pay: $129,000 annually.

What you will do

• Develop, test, maintain, and launch software components and applications for hirify.global’s audiobook platform.
• Write maintainable and scalable code as part of an agile engineering team.
• Identify and resolve defects through code reviews, log analysis, metrics examination, debugging, and troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to design and develop customer-centric software.
• Apply computer science, engineering, and analysis principles to solve moderate-scale problems.
• Improve testability, operational excellence, documentation, and data classification, storage, and management; participate in interviews and mentor fellow engineers.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Experience with at least one modern or general-purpose programming language, including Java, Python, C++, C#, Go, Rust, or TypeScript, with object-oriented design experience.
• Experience implementing data structures, developing basic algorithms, and applying object-oriented design principles.
• Currently enrolled in or having completed a Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related STEM field; an equivalent engineering background may also qualify.
• Experience from at least one technical internship or demonstrated project experience.
• Experience with optimization mathematics, such as linear programming and nonlinear optimization.
• Experience with distributed, multi-tiered systems, algorithms, and relational databases.
• Ability to learn and adapt quickly to new technologies, strong problem-solving and analytical skills, excellent written and verbal communication, and a basic understanding of the software development lifecycle.

Nice to have

• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS; SQL and NoSQL databases; AI tools for development productivity; open-source contributions; and version control systems.
