Associate Director of Platform Engineering (Azure/Terraform)

Location: Remote within the US; the stated wage range applies when work is performed in Connecticut. US work authorization is required. Occasional travel, after-hours, and weekend work may be required.

Salary: $135,000–$229,500 per year

What you will do

• Establish and lead an enterprise platform engineering function, including strategy, roadmap, architecture, standards, and prioritized backlog.
• Lead Azure Landing Zones, reusable Terraform modules, automated deployment patterns, and self-service platform capabilities.
• Build and mentor a platform engineering team, including infrastructure staff transitioning into platform engineering roles.
• Define standards for infrastructure as code, CI/CD, testing, documentation, and policy as code.
• Partner with security, infrastructure, application development, and finance teams on governance, reliability, adoption, and cost management.
• Communicate priorities, risks, and outcomes to executive leadership and drive continuous improvement.

Requirements

• 10+ years of hands-on software and/or systems engineering experience, including 3–5 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
• BS or BA in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Demonstrated leadership in enterprise platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, and DevOps.
• Experience establishing a platform engineering capability or internal developer platform from scratch.
• Hands-on Azure Kubernetes Service experience covering cluster architecture, networking, security, scaling, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
• Advanced Terraform experience with reusable modules, remote state management, and CI/CD integration.
• Proficiency with Git-based workflows and Azure DevOps and/or GitHub Actions.
• Hands-on Azure expertise across networking, identity, infrastructure, and governance.
• Experience deploying and supporting Boomi runtime infrastructure, including secure connectivity, capacity planning, monitoring, and high availability.
• Experience designing Azure Landing Zones or comparable enterprise cloud foundations, plus strong communication and technical leadership skills.
