Principal Software Engineer (Cybersecurity)

Location: Maidenhead, United Kingdom; onsite. Candidates must be British Citizens who have been resident in the UK for the past 5 years for SC clearance and 10 years for DV clearance.

What you will do

• Provide technical leadership and define, architect, design, develop, document, and test embedded and/or application software within teams of 5–20 engineers.
• Derive software requirements and architecture from system designs and deliver high-quality software through the full development lifecycle.
• Apply object-oriented design, design patterns, modelling tools, code generation, testing frameworks, TDD/BDD, continuous integration, DevSecOps, and software analysis tools.
• Estimate software activities, manage delivery against cost and schedule, and contribute to project requirements, risks, bids, proposals, and contract awards.
• Lead technical reviews, sign off significant technical documents, explain complex concepts, and contribute to the Software Community of Practice.
• Mentor and coach less experienced engineers and may line-manage up to 5 software engineers.

Requirements

• Willingness and ability to obtain and maintain SC security clearance, followed by DV security clearance.
• Degree in an engineering, mathematical, or science-based subject, or equivalent experience.
• Significant experience in at least one of: embedded product development including bare-metal and RTOS such as ThreadX, QNX, or Linux; embedded Linux application, kernel, and/or driver development; or C and C++.
• Significant experience with best-practice software development processes and lifecycles.
• Experience with object-oriented design and design patterns such as SOLID.
• Experience with software testing and design for test.

Nice to have

• Master's degree in an engineering, mathematical, or science-based subject, or equivalent experience.
• Rust; JavaScript, Node, and React; and communications protocols such as TCP/IP.
• Experience with version control, continuous integration, and automated test tools and frameworks.
• Exposure to defensive coding techniques and standards such as MISRA.
• Advanced knowledge of software engineering practices, methodologies, processes, techniques, and technology trends.
• Experience with DOORS, RSA, Enterprise Architect, UML, and SysML.
